To writers: has this ever happened to you?
I'm at the con, having a good time, relaxing a bit. Definitely decompressing. Well, I was hanging out with roommates and a couple of artists down in the Zoo, getting a bit of writing done.
I picked up on a momentary burst of inspiration from a few hours ago and sat down to get some writing done on my handheld. I got a few paragraphs into the story, setting up backstory and description of the character, and I thought to myself I had a pretty good character for my Totembound series. Then I sat up and realized something.
I had no plot whatsoever. I had just done the writing equivalent of a random con sketch. Of course, unlike artists who can actually draw stuff, I couldn't casually sell that at a dealer table for 5 bucks. One of the downsides of being a writer, I guess.
All in all, I'm getting by. 2's show was really good, although the dance that followed was a bit below standards... because of some BS union regulations or something at the convention center, they weren't able to clear out all of the chairs in the ballroom and could only use a pre-designated dance floor space. Sure, it was more fun for the wallflowers, since they could actually sit down, but it just wasn't the same. Even though the room was larger, we actually had less dance space than we did in Philadelphia. Well, I shouldn't say 'we.' I really don't dance much, at cons. Or at all, for that matter. Maybe it's because a slightly depressing incident from last year pretty much killed wallflowering at dances for me, I dunno. But that's not something I'm going to get into right at this moment.
