My cousin's wife Alison passed away Wednesday night/Thursday morning sometime in an accident in the creek behind her home. We had the service Monday morning, after which I was just too out of it to get any of the stuff done I need to do. And something I ate didn't agree with me on Tuesday, and I wound up spending most of the day sleeping it off.
And only now do I realize that other than that, all that's left is to discuss gaming. Which I'm not just ready to do right now, so now is some random commentary...
Apparently Sir Ian McKellan has been made an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Georgia National Guard by one of the three people left on the planet that didn't know he's gay.
Also, while watching some House reruns earlier, I caught a commercial for a new Fox series, Standoff. It's apparently about a couple of hostage negotiators who are sleeping with each other. Doesn't Fox already have a horribly-written cop show that exists solely to push an implausible romantic chemistry subplot that has nothing to do with the show's subject matter? I mean, sure, a number of House are about the title character working through his wide array of social problems, but those generally come out pretty well. The romantic subplot in Bones is hindered by bad writing and the fact that the two actors have about as much on-screen chemistry as Anakin Skywalker and Padme action figures being smacked together by George Lucas.
Has anyone heard about this new series, Dexter, that is to be premiering on Showtime? Apparently it's about a cop who goes after serial killers, and has a knack for getting into their heads because he secretly is one himself. There's no way the actual show could live up to the potential that is obvious in that premise. No way in hell. But dammit, I can hope.
